THE SECRET TO IMPACT? DECISION CRITERIA

As we begin 2019, we’re thrilled to profile the Cenovus Decision Making Criteria, a tool created to assist a geographically dispersed community investment team with decision-making consistency by clearly outlining  and identifying characteristics of a community investment opportunity to ensure both community and business impact.

2019: BUSINESS AND THE SDGs

How to engage in work to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is increasingly becoming a topic of interest among corporations around the world.

Recently, the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) explored six themes to illustrate why business should care about the Sustainable Development Goals and priorities for 2019.

A couple themes of note include – (Theme 2) where companies will become increasingly accountable by a range of stakeholders if they are not demonstrating more robust, meaningful commitments to the SDGs; (Theme 5) – that certain goals will be under enhanced focus in 2019, and evidence of aligning your community investment activities to climate action, reduced inequalities and zero hunger may be an ask from SLT and stakeholders; finally (Theme 6) – seeing further exploration into who exactly is going to foot the SDG bill. 2019 will be an important year in terms of helping to scale new mechanisms which can help de-risk and incentivize enhanced levels of private sector investment.

Also, keep an eye out for the upcoming Global Sustainable Development Report from the UN. More details to follow!
