#SDGs 3, 13, 14, 15 – Good Health & Well-Being, Climate Action, Life Below the Water, Life on Land
MEC’s Community Investment (CI) vision is to build a community of active outdoor enthusiasts. With a clear link to MEC’s corporate purpose i.e. to inspire and enable everyone to lead active outdoor lifestyles – MEC’s CI vision includes removing barriers to engagement with the outdoors among people living within urban centres.
In the course of enabling access to the outdoors, MEC seeks to increase the appreciation, awareness and skills essential to ongoing environmental stewardship. By entwinning the two together, more people will be inspired, knowledgeable and skilled to care for the planet as they experience the enjoyment and physical benefits of access to the natural environment. Hence – a series of actions to address SDGs 3, 13, 14 and 15.
A multi-prong approach has been taken. MEC seeks to:
- Identify and reduce barriers to responsible outdoor activity and increase the community of active outdoor enthusiasts.
- Enable everyone to learn and practice responsible outdoor recreation through environmental stewardship.
- Conserve areas of significant ecological and outdoor recreational value to facilitate public access and sustainable recreation use.
Studies show that being connected to nature inspires us, supporting our physical and mental well-being. Being together in nature builds community and a sense of belonging. Experience in the majesty of nature encourages us to be advocates for our planet in order to preserve it for future generations. Bottom line, MEC loves the connection between activity and the outdoors and wants to assist every person to experience and love it too. And to contribute to achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
